Everything you want to Know about Surrogacy in Russia
Russia is often been considered
as a preferred surrogacy destination for most International couples that are
looking to realize their parenthood dreams via surrogacy. While the Russian
surrogacy law only permits straight couples and single women to pursue
surrogacy within the country, they also
have to prove their incapability to conceive via various medical certificates.
Surrogacy laws in Russia
Surrogacy stands legal in Russia
as per the provisions given in the ‘Federal law On Basics of Health Protection
of Citizens of the Russian Federation, published in the year 2012.
According to the law, every couple
(local or International) is permitted to take part in gestational surrogacy in Russia, provided that
they fulfill the following requirements:
• Only
heterosexual couples and single females are permitted to participate in a
gestational surrogacy arrangement.
• Only
gestational surrogacy Russia is permitted in the country and the surrogate
mother Russia has to use the eggs from the intended mother or the egg donor to
conceive.
• The couples or the intended mother has to present a medical cause along with
all the required reports and proofs to back their decision to pursue surrogacy in Russia.
What are the requirements to be
a surrogate mother in Russia?
According to section 10 of
Article 55 of Russian federation law regarding health protection normative, a
surrogate mother needs to:
• Aged
between 20 –35 years with sound mental and physical health
• Having
at least one child of her own
• Take
permission from her husband to participate in the surrogacy program
• Must
be following a healthy lifestyle and routine without any addiction to alcohol
or smoking.
What about the egg donation process in Russia?
In all those cases where the
intended mother cannot use her own eggs(due to certain infertility issues),
bringing an egg donor or an egg donor agency Russia
onboard is permissible. The same alternative, however, is not available in the
case where a single woman is seeking a child via surrogacy.
As per the Russian surrogacy law, only two egg donor profiles are deemed
legal in the country:
- Anonymous
donor: The identity of the egg donor is not revealed to the intended parents,
except for a few physical features and pictures of the egg donor in a few
cases.
- Known
donors: Both parties hereby are already familiar to each other and it mostly

What is the cost of surrogacy in Russia?
Considering all the above
mentioned aspects, the surrogacy cost in Russia would range between $35,000 and
$55,000.The same cost may vary in case of pregnancy is not achieved in the
first IVF attempt, multiple pregnancies, pre-term birth, C-section, and so on.
